February Teacher of the Month: Mr. Hay

February’s Roadmap to Success Teacher of the Month is Mr. Shedrick Hay, an 8th grade science teacher at KIPP Truth Academy. Join us in congratulating this dedicated educator on his hard work to better the lives of his students through a quality education!

February teacher of the month

Alma Mater: Louisiana Tech University

Area of Study: Spanish

Favorite college memory: Studying abroad in Costa Rica

Why you chose to become a teacher: Throughout my childhood, there were not many positive teacher role models within my school nor were there many teachers willing to do what was needed for change. During these times, great educators such as Mrs. Martha Specks, Mrs. Meadows, Mrs. Curry, and Coach Jackson exemplified the very essence of our profession. The guidance and care provided through them moved me to find a way to give back not only to my community but to those who need us the most. I teach for a better tomorrow.

Favorite quote: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. ” Dr. Martin Luther King

Favorite activity/lesson in the Roadmap to Success Program: This is tough as we have really enjoyed all of the lessons; however, I feel that we spent a good deal of time discussing “High School Fit” and “Life Outside of School” within Unit 2 as my students were very excited. Additionally, we really had some laughs as well as serious discussions around our lesson on “Professionalism” within Unit 3.

Impact Manager Andy Lovley nominated Mr. Hay as the February Teacher of the Month. Here’s what he had to say about him:

“Mr. Hay’s Roadmap to Success morning class is always full of big questions and big ideas. It is a pleasure to watch him personalize the lessons, pulling his educational journey into the conversation and asking students for theirs. I look forward to more great lessons to come!”
